How to Diagnose Refrigerator Problems Before Calling a Repair Center
The refrigerator in our house occupies, without exaggeration, an important place and we are used to just opening the door and taking out fresh cool food from there. And if the refrigerator works as it should, we just do not notice it. But the picture changes when something is wrong with the refrigerator – maybe it makes strange sounds, heat comes from it, it vibrates strongly, the food inside is either too warm or frozen through. What to do? Urgently call the service or try to get to the manufacturer’s technical support? Where to put all the products? Now we will try to sort out the situation, whether it is possible to try to diagnose the problem on our own or still you need to call the refrigerator repair service – in our case, you need a proven local appliance repair service on Staten Island.
The most common refrigerator problems are:
- temperature controller failure – temperature inside the fridge can’t be changed;
- refrigerator ceased to freeze;
- the door can’t be closed firmly;
- motor/compressor failure;
- absence of light inside refrigerator;
- refrigerator motor keeps working continuously;
- refrigerator makes abnormally loud noise
How to know if refrigerator lacks refrigerant gas?
It is extremely rare, but it still happens, especially with older models of refrigerators, this is a leak of a refrigerant – a special gas, freon was previously used for this purpose. In general, the cooling system of the refrigerator associated with the compressor is closed, but the tightness can be broken due to constant vibration, fumes, temperature, damage when dragging the refrigerator from place to place and other reasons. Microcracks or corrosive holes appear and the gas leaks out. When there is a lack of refrigerant, the entire system stops working normally – sensors detect insufficient cooling, the compressor starts to work with an increased load, the entire system works in abnormal mode. This can happen very gradually or rather abruptly, depending on the rate of gas leakage.
If the compressor runs continuously, this is not normal and tells you that there is a lack of gas.
For older refrigerators, it was freon, a water-cooled gas that was used for various models of refrigerators between 1930 and 1990. What gas replaces freon? It is slowly being replaced by less harmful gases, HFCs (hydrofluorocarbons).
Only a qualified repairman can refill your refrigerator compressor with gas, do not try to do it yourself!
Note for a repair specialist: Remove the plastic cover on the valve and attach the hose to fill the bottle or add. Inject gas and/or sealant at the recommended pressure then re-test the refrigerator while it is operating. This valve must not be left disassembled after refill!
How to detect a freezer failure?
If the temperature rises sharply and an alarm is triggered, the temperature has reached an acceptable limit. It could be a gas leak due to a rusty hole in the pipe, or a problem with the processor, which is the subject of a professional refrigerator repair.
How to diagnose a problem if the refrigerator seems to have stopped cooling?
- Check that the power supply is working;
- Have you noticed that the refrigerator or compressor is abnormally hot?;
- Check the condition of the door and its rubber sealant;
- Check that the condenser is not obstructed or blocked;
- Check that the refrigerator is well ventilated and no technical openings are blocked
